Synopsis: 

Der 10-jährige DANNY, dessen Mutter ELIZABETH wegen einer Nervenkrankheit in eine Klinik kommt, wird bei den Pflegeeltern EDWARD und LOUISE MILLIGAN untergebracht. Der angespannte Junge kennt seinen Vater nicht, denn dieser hat seine Mutter vor der Geburt verlassen. Danny ist zunächst sehr verschlossen und voller Wut und stellt eine große Herausforderung für die Milligans dar.

Dies ändert sich, als Mr. Milligan dem Jungen ein Modell eines Kampfflugzeugs aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg schenkt. Dieses Geschenk wird der Auslöser für eine innere und sehr emotionale Reise, auf welcher Danny der mysteriöse Pilot ACE begegnet. Der Junge entdeckt nach und nach die Geheimnisse der Vergangenheit und erlebt, dass er den Schlüssel für seine Zukunft bereits in den Händen hält.

Ace ist ein packendes Familiendrama mit historischem Anstrich und erfordert einen starken Kinderdarsteller für die Rolle des Danny. Die Musik enthält klassische und popige Anklänge und wurde ansprechend für ein kleines Orchester arrangiert. Das Musical wurde 2005 im Rahmen des Musical Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals uraufgeführt und erlebt 2008 eine Wiederaufnahme im Signature Theatre in Arlington, beides in den USA. Es erhielt 6 Kevin Kline Awards, u.a. als Outstanding New Musical.

Der Komponist und Co-Autor Richard Oberacker arbeitete als Musikalischer Leiter für zahlreiche große Shows wie Cirque du Soleil und Dralion in Las Vegas, die Tourproduktionen von Disneys Der König der Löwen und Showboat sowie Andrew Lloyd Webbers Music Of The Night. Er komponierte mehrere Musicals, u.a. The Gospel According To Fishman und Dracula – The Game Of Love.
