Synopsis:

In an enchanted castle there lives a prince who, because of his rudeness and lack of humanity, was turned into a beast by a fairy.  One day, when the merchant William becomes lost and stumbles across the castle where he is trapped, the cruel and despairing beast proposes a trade-off:  William’s freedom and unending wealth in exchange for one of his daughters, as the spell which turned the prince into a beast can only be broken if a girl falls in love with him.  It is Bella, the youngest of William’s three daughters, and the Cinderella of the family, who offers herself up for her father and makes her way to the terrible castle.  She is a dreamer who longs for a life beyond that of the dull village.  Bella decides to live with the Beast, against the wishes of the self-regarding villager Gustav, who has been crudely wooing her for some time.  As a result, Gustav enlists the help of the villagers to destroy the Beast.  During the fight, Bella comes to realise that it is not pity but love that binds her to the Beast.  At the last second, she confesses her love for him, thereby lifting the curse that has weighed upon the Prince, the castle and its inhabitants.
