Synopsis:

Helena's final gender reassignment surgery takes place tomorrow. She is very excited about this last important step and reflects on how it all came about. Helena used to be called Klaus. Even as a little boy, he wanted to dress up in his mother's clothes and wear make-up.  Klaus' first love at school was David Steiner, who paid no attention to him as a boy. Klaus eventually married and had two sons with his wife. When he and his wife are invited to a fancy dress party, she suggests that he dress as a woman. From then on, Klaus took to it and once a week visits clubs where he can be whoever he wants to be. Klaus doesn't just want to feel like a woman, he wants to be one. The first steps are discussed with a psychotherapist and doctors, but the consequences are also pointed out. We see how the transsexual feels and how society reacts to him from now on, especially his family and his closest friends: his wife, who initially distances herself from Helena, the children, who don't know whether they should continue to call their father daddy or mummy. Helena is alone and lonely for long periods, as such operations are only allegedly normal nowadays. The reality is different. Helena hopes that the most important people in her life will find a place in her life again. But there is still a long way to go...

Presse:

Theatrecouch Vienna, Blickpunkt Musical, Mina Piston, issue 130:
"In the intimate atmosphere of the Theater am Spittelberg, everything is just right on this evening with "Ein wenig Farbe". Politically topical issues are brought to the stage in an explosive and approachable way with the highest quality. In the end, the audience is on the edge of their seats."

Baden Online, 20.10.2020:"
Theatre Baden Alsace - The brilliant performance by Camilla Kallfass at the German premiere of the transgender musical "A Little Colour", which got under the skin, was celebrated with standing ovations on Friday evening at the European Forum on the Rhine. The audience was not sparing with applause for the acting and vocal performance in the one-woman play, in which Kallfass plays 22 roles."

Badische Zeitung, 19.10.2020:.
"Emotional performance - It's not just the mood of the dark auditorium that captivates the audience more and more, it's the brilliant acting and the singing of Camilla Kallfass, which gets under the skin and is able to sensitively express the turmoil, the fear, but also the feelings of happiness down to the finest nuances. Another factor is the soundtrack: from romantically soft cuddly pop to driving runs of piano and strings, when it comes to reviewing life with the psychotherapist. A hot topic staged in a multi-faceted way and at the same time presented with seriousness and humour. Bravo!"

Vienna-Journal, Barbara Klaus, 05.05.2018:
"Never again in the dark" The transgender story is not intended as light entertainment, but is primarily intended to encourage reflection on contemporary society and the gender roles it has defined. [...] The topic of transgender has been dealt with in film, television and online for some time now. Now, with the musical "A Little Colour", it has also found a new form of representation in theatre. The important thing here is that it not only shows how the transgender person themselves feels, but also how society, in particular their family and circle of friends, reacts to them. In this way, the play possibly encourages people to question gender roles defined as 'normal' by society. Overall, the play "A Little Colour" is a very successful attempt to make the topic of transgender tangible for a theatre audience in the form of a musical. In addition to Rory Six, who has written some catchy (and entertaining) numbers for a well thought-out musical, including "Ein Wenig Farbe", "David Steiner" and "Nie mehr im Dunkeln", which also closes the work, it is above all Pia Douwes who makes this work so unforgettable with her voice and portrayal of numerous characters."

Musicalfreunde, 05.05.2018:
"Rory Six, who wrote the book and music, manages to make the subject matter accessible to a wider audience with this production."
