Synopsis
The tale of an evil, magic mirror, whose splinters freeze hearts and blind eyes to all that is beautiful, is Andersen’s most multi-layered story, for young and old alike.
In Christian Berg’s version, Andersen himself tells the story to the audience.
The orphan Kai is afflicted by these very splinters of glass and soon follows the evil Snow Queen into her icy kingdom. But the fairytale is also an hommage to friendship, since Kai’s friend Gerda sets out to free him from the ice palace. On the way, she becomes acquainted with trees that talk and other amusing companions, as well as some darker characters, until she finally reaches Kai and tries to melt his cold heart.
